Stylish & Sustainable: 14 Ethically Made Gifts for Men

Long before I met him, my husband was investing in higher quality, ethically made products. He researched, chose the best, and built a solid wardrobe with so much intention. Actually, Matt is the original inspiration for me downsizing and simplifying years ago!

So of course, I asked him to help me create a Gift Guide of Ethically-Made Products for Men that would be meaningful & timeless. This is it.

Without further ado, we present to you 14 stylish and sustainable gift ideas for the men in your life.

Martin All-Weather Boot (in Tobacco)- My husband, Matt, has been a longtime fan of Nisolo and loves every pair he owns. If he were to buy a new pair this year, this is the exact boot he’d get. They are handmade in Peru by artisans earning a fair wage, and these hit all the marks: design, comfort, and function. (Code HELLOMRSFINE gets new customers 20% off)

Owen Belt (in Tobacco)- Another good quality, classic idea: a leather belt, handmade in Peru and full of style. (Code HELLOMRSFINE gets new customers 20% off)

Canvas Weekender– For the traveler, this bag is built to last. It’s primarily made of canvas but has the Nisolo leather we all rave about. Ethically made in Mexico, it’s the best way to travel in style! (Code HELLOMRSFINE gets new customers 20% off)

Loreto Messenger Bag– When you marry a guy who keeps things forever, it’s hard to make recommendations. So I asked Matt, if he HAD to replace his decade old messenger bag what would he get, and this was his answer. In addition to being ethically made in Mexico, it’s available in both canvas and leather, meaning there are 2 different price points to shop within. (Code HELLOMRSFINE gets new customers 20% off)

Dopp Kit– I am partial to Noonday Collection because their leather quality is so high, and every item I’ve purchased has been top notch. This dopp kit is made of both canvas and leather, and it’s such a stylish upgrade! Fill it with favorite travel size items, and it’s a gift set ready to go!

Leather Wallet/Travel Companion– This one is slightly larger than a wallet, which is exactly why I chose it. (Though there are also good wallet options at this link!) I appreciate that it can also hold a passport, while still remaining small enough to fit in a pocket. It’s ethically made in Mexico.

Leather Catchall Tray– Yes, it’s another leather piece, this one for all those random things that come out of a pocket after work. 🙂 Because I wanted to make an ethical and sustainable gift guide, I’m choosing as many pieces as possible that are timeless and high quality. Beautiful items, like this leather catchall tray, can add design and style to life for many, many years. Classic!

Leather Coasters– We love leather coasters because they’re lightweight, the kids cannot damage them easily, and they only look better with age. One of my favorite husband’s favorite gifts is a bottle of bourbon, and this would be the perfect add-on to stuff in a stocking.

Portside Henley– This brand uses organic cotton that’s GOTS certified, in addition to being fair trade verified, and their clothing is top notch. It’s soft, high quality, and built to last. Though I can only personally recommend this style, I feel confident that you can mix and match any of the long sleeves/henleys and have a happy man!

Wool Slippers– These are fully natural, made out of wool to keep feet warm but not stinky. They’re handmade with sustainably sourced wool in Kyrgyzstan. You can be sure they are comfortable (actual arch support due to their molded design!), and the most sustainable + ethically made slipper out there.

Beanie– Made of alpaca, I can only assume this is an extremely soft and luxurious feeling beanie. I chose this one because it’s fair trade verified, meaning we know makers were paid a dignfied wage. Krochet Kids has additional options on their website.

Towels– Something about super soft, GOTS certified cotton that feels so good! I chose a dark, moody color but you really can’t go wrong with any of these towels.

Coffee– If your husband is anything like mine, he is obsessed with finding the most special, most delicious coffee. This is my husband, Matt’s, very favorite coffee! In his words, “you can’t go wrong with any of these.”

French Terry Jogger– If comfort is king at your house like mine, these are necessary. Matt has several shirts and pairs of shorts from Pact and literally loves every piece. (New customers get 20% off with this link.)

As Matt and I sat down to make this together, we laughed about how old most of his favorite things are. He made several investment purchases from these very brands long before I knew him (going on 9 years now), and they’ve stood the test of time. This is one of the reasons we believe quality matters more than quantity.

To the best of our knowledge, these items are ethically made in ways that are more sustainable than industry standards.

Our hope is this guide helps you find gifts that give back to the makers who lovingly make them, the environment who lovingly provides for them, and the recipient who will undoubtedly feel good about what he’s wearing.

Please leave a comment if you try one of these items, or if you have another ethical brand we need to learn about!

Xoxo,

Kimberly (with guest Matt)

  1. This is a fantastic gift guide. I love that it doesn’t center around drinking alcohol or golf!
