Apparently, the idea of having a ’90s summer’ is trending, which kind of makes me laugh because while yes, I do remember bike rides to see friends and endless hours at the pool and perhaps a more simplified way of living, I also remember sunburns and exhaustion and eating pb and js every single day. HA! So I guess it is what we make it?
But I digress because I do enjoy a slower, less scheduled pace of life. 🙂 One way I do this is my keeping my summer outfits very simple. Like throw on and go, but still feel good and put together.
Let’s dive into the essentials of my summer capsule wardrobe (all ethically-made, of course), and then I’ll show you how to effortlessly combine these items for endless outfit possibilities. Like, truly endless. (More on layering and building uniform formulas + how it makes the options endless later down this post!)
But first, if you want to skip right to just the essentials, you may want to head straight to my Shop My page.

Perfecting The Summer Uniform
Real talk: creating a uniform formula is what really helps me during summer months. It’s not for everyone (and I respect it!), but if your closet feels overwhelming it may be worth giving it a try.
You create your personal ‘uniform’ by thinking about the silhouettes, styles, and pieces that you regularly pull out to wear. Look for commonalities, and you’ll likely find you already have a formula.
Here are a few of mine:
- Tank Top + High-waisted Trouser Shorts
- Cropped Tee + Shorts or High-waisted Jeans
- Simple black dress + gold jewelry
- Cami + Button-down (left open) + High-waisted Shorts
Borrow mine if you want to give it a try, or think about your best ‘I feel like ME’ pieces and start there!
Styling Summer Outfits
I prefer to share photos of myself actually wearing these pieces from my capsule wardrobe, but in an effort to be more present with my kids this summer I won’t be capturing as much content. However, I’ll include some outfit ideas to use as inspo!
As always, you can find me on Instagram if you have any questions! I’m taking a summer hiatus to be with my kids, but I’ll do my best to respond to messages when I can. 🙂
